Kantor / Come Dear Christ Octavo
Kantor / Come Dear Christ Octavo
Daniel Kantor found the haunting melody of this piece so compelling, he decided to develop an arrangement for liturgical use. The original melody was penned by Kantor's friend, Dr. Joe Gryskiewicz. Kantor's arrangement builds on the melody through harmonizations that mystically capture Mary Louise Bringle's poignant text. This simple, accessible piece is great for any church choir for use over the Advent season.
For SATB Voices, Keyboard and Guitar. Optional Descant or C-Instrument.
Mary Louise Bringle's text:
1. Come dear Christ your world awaits.
Speak a loud incarnate Word.
Longing earth anticipates:
let your cry for peace be heard.
2. Morning Star with diamond fire,
shine in radiance through our night.
Urgent now with hopes desire
yearning peoples seek your light.
3. Open heav'ns and rain down dew.
Show-er justice on the earth.
Parched and troubled lands, renew
by a righteous Savior's birth.
4. Silent in the Virgin's Womb,
God in full divinity
come to fill each lonely room
by your blest nativity.
5. Come, dear Christ with tender care,
here in eager hearts to dwell,
Answer now our Advent pray'r:
come to us, Emmanuel.
